This should be considered a window into my thought process on taking over the world with the means of free software. It might be rough and unfiltered.
– I would not cite anything from here for anything other than anecdotal reference, since anything may be subject to revision.

Spreading MediaGoblin

How does one spread MediaGoblin?

  • Talking to people - This is probably the best one.
  • Providing media distribution functionality to make MediaGoblin pass media on to proprietary solutions like Flickr, deviantART, (Facebook, YouTube, Twitter).

Media distribution and promotion of MediaGoblin

In the cases of Flickr, devianART, Facebook and YouTube the media could be posted via the platform's API. Promotion of media goblin could be placed in media descriptions. There are some pitfalls with this, and if it isn't done properly, it may have a negative effect.

In the cases of Facebook (again) and Twitter we could simply post an update via the platform's API, which contains the Title and a link to the media page.

The above example should be taken figuratively.

Ease of transition

Established artists may already have an account on a proprietary solution, this may include

  • Media
  • Comments
  • Network (friends, followers, groups)

to ease the transition, one could provide easy tools (see Requirements on tech-savyness of instance administrators) to import existing media and media metadata from the proprietary solution into MediaGoblin.
